Professor Philip Chenique first came to the world of Martial Arts at the age of seven, beginning with the study of Judo at the Y.M.C.A. in New York. He also undertook the study of Karate and Ken-Jitsu. By age 13, Professor Chenique was studying Take-No-Uchi Kogen-Ryu Atemi Jujitsu with Sensei Richard Adams. Later, at age twenty, he studied Shotokan Karate under the guidance of Shihan Barry Deutsch. He soon became a student of Dr. Moses Powell, the founder of the Sanuces Ryu-Jujitsu system, and Dr. Powell's teacher, Master Florendo Vistacion, as well as many other Grandmasters. In 1975, after attaining the rank of Shihan, Professor Chenique established his form of Jujitsu and christened it "Atemi-Ryu Jujitsu". Doctorate rank in Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu under the direct guidance of Grandmaster Dr. Moses Powell.
